CURRENT STATUS: Unjustified emendation of Anthracia Meigen, 1838 ; junior synonym of Nyctia Robineau- Desvoidy, 1830. New synonymy.

FAMILY: SARCOPHAGIDAE .

REMARKS: Name made available as an emendation by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “th” to “t” in the same work. Anthracia Meigen, 1838 is currently treated as a junior synonym of Nyctia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 [ teste Pape (1996: 165) ].

CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Anthrax Scopoli, 1763 .

FAMILY: BOMBYLIIDAE .

REMARKS: The earliest mention of Anthrax Scopoli, 1763 using the spelling “ Antrax ” that we have found in this study is in Lamarck (1801: 312), as an incorrect subsequent spelling. In Rondani (1844c) this is either an incorrect subsequent spelling or unjustified emendation (by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “th” to “t” in the same work). We thus follow ICZN Code Article 33.5 in treating this spelling in Rondani (1844c) as an incorrect subsequent spelling.
