(Fig. 8)

Description of female holotype. Elongate, subcylindrical; 14.0 mm in length from head to elytral apex, 4.7 mm width between humeri; surface transversely rugulose, glabrous; dorsal surface iridescent, head and pronotum shining black with redpurple to orange and blue highlights; elytra intense purple; ventral surface and legs black with strong aeneous reflection. Head with frontovertex longitudinally depressed, projecting beyond anterior margin of eye; eyes relatively small, inner margins diverging dorsally, circumocular groove wide, entire, transverse preantennal groove entire; antennal cavities large, subcontiguous, closer to each other than distance between; frontoclypeus narrow, carinate between antennae; distal margin narrow, angulately projecting; gena posterior to eye with oblique depression to receive basal antennomeres in repose; antennae beyond antennomere 1 missing. Pronotum narrowed in anterior third, expanded in posterior 2/3, widest at about posterior 1/3; disc entire, rounded laterally; prelateral carina on either side medially; anterior margin arcuate, posterior margin bisinuate, lateral margin biangulate, carina entire. Scutellum triangular, anterior margin convex, lateral margins concave. Elytra wider than pronotum, widest opposite humeri; lateral margin very gradually narrowing to about midpoint before gradually widening to posterior 1/3, then narrowing more steeply to separately attenuate apices; disc entire except for one thin central costa; lateroposterior margin serrulate; epipleuron short. Prosternum with strongly projecting broad mentonniere, notched laterally for antennomeres in repose; process slightly expanded posterior to procoxae, then narrowing sharply to rounded attenuate apex; abdominal ventrites 1, 2 subequal in length, longer than 3–5; 3, 4 subequal, each shorter than 5; 5 broadly arcuate apically; 1 and 2 expanded laterally, visible from above lateral to elytral margins. Legs with pro and mesotibiae arcuate; tarsi with pulvilli on tarsomeres 1–4; claws appendiculate.

Specimens examined. Holotype Ψ (USNM ex. LCMP): [ Philippines] North Luzon, Nueva Viscaya, Aritao, vi.[19]87, [R. Lumawig].

Etymology. The species epithet is chosen to highlight the projecting, i.e. gibbous, head.

Remarks. The only known specimen, the holotype, is donated to the USNM by Ismael Lumawig where it joins the large collection of Philippine buprestids from the Charles Fuller Baker collection on which W. S. Fisher published extensively; the Baker collection was studied earlier by Kerremans (1914) and Obenberger (1924). The holotype is damaged, missing both antennae, portions of both foretarsi, and the entire left mesotarsus. The left elytral apex is deformed (Fig. 8) and the right elytron has two small round openings.
