Taxonomic notes. Hampson (1900) listed Ammatho figuratus Walker , Cyme chinensis C. Felder & R. Felder and Hypocrita rhodina Herrich-Schäffer as synonyms of delineata . The type specimens of the first two taxa described from China have no morphological differences compared to delineata ( Figs 1–3 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ), and the synonymy of delineata , figuratus and chinensis is confirmed here. The type specimen of Hypocrita rhodina is not examined, but the taxon was described from Borneo where B. delineata does not occur, but another externally similar species, Barsine exclusa Butler, 1877 is distributed. Thus, Hypocrita rhodina is presumably conspecific with B. exclusa , but this question will be solved only after the examination and dissection of the type specimen of rhodina . The dark form of Barsine delineata has a dark form which strongly differs externally from the typical form, and was described as Ammatho fuscescens Butler ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ). Subsequently, A. fuscescens was treated as a synonym ( Hampson 1900), form ( Reich 1937), and aberration ( Daniel 1951; as 'ab. fuscens ') of B. delineata . Later, the same dark form of B. delineata was described by Fang (1991) as a distinct species Miltochrista dimidiata Fang ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ), which was transferred to Barsine by Dubatolov et al. (2012). Nevertheless, the male and female genitalia of this form ( Figs 10 View FIGURES 9 – 12 , 14 View FIGURES 13 – 15 ) equal to those of the typical form ( Figs 9 View FIGURES 9 – 12 , 13 View FIGURES 13 – 15 ). Thus here the new synonymy is established: B. delineata Walker = Miltochrista dimidiata Fang , syn. n., and the synonymy of B. delineata and Ammatho fuscescens Butler is revised.
Diagnosis. Externally a highly variable species, ground color varies from brownish red and orange brown to brownish black; forewing pattern consist of diffuse blackish brown transverse lines and longitudinal strokes in the submarginal area; the dark form have the ground color of forewing blackish, with only small orange brown fields in subbasal and antemedial areas. The male genitalia are very characteristic and readily separated from those of the other described Barsine species by the following characters: (1) the valva is very broad; medial costal extension is triangular, narrow; distal costal extension a broad lobe with curved and strongly dentate crest at dorsal margin; (2) the sacculus is broad, setose, with a short, slightly curved and apically blunt distal extension; (3) the aedeagus is long and narrow, the vesica with several small conical membranous diverticuli, one medio-lateral broad sack-like and one dorsal finger-like diverticuli with numerous small spine-like cornuti. In the female genitalia, the postvaginal plate is broad, band-like; ductus bursae is triangular, moderately sclerotized, with broad antrum; corpus bursae is ovate, with numerous small spinules in posterior section; appendix bursae is conical, membranous and laterally positioned.
Distribution. China (Gansu, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Xiangan), Taiwan ( Fang 2000; Dubatolov et al. 2012).
