Homotypic synonym: Coelogyne fuscescens Lindl. var. assamica (Linden & Rchb.f.) Pfitzer & Kraenzl. in H.G.A.Engler (ed.), Pflanzenr., IV, 50 II B 7 (32): 43, 1907.

Heterotypic synonym: Coelogyne picta Schltr., Notizbl. Bot. Gart. Berlin-Dahlem 8: 118, 1922. Type :— MYANMAR. Upper part: imp. Hennis s.n., cult. Bot. Gard. Berlin s.n. (holotype: B, destroyed) .

Specimens examined:— UPPER MYANMAR. Type. KACHIN. Putao District: fide Aung et al. (2020: 70); Myitkyina District: 1080 m, 7 Dec 2005, Murata et al. 041245 ( MBK), ident. uncertain; same loc., 200−250 m, 8 Dec 2005, Murata et al. 041288 ( MBK, TI), ident. uncertain; Bhamo District : without collector 7 ( W), ident. uncertain . WITHOUT LOCALITY. Cult. material ( K). Reported from Sagaing Region, Chin State and Mandalay Region by Kress et al. (2003: 70; as Coelogyne picta ), but we have not seen any material from these areas .

Distribution:— The eastern Himalayas, northeastern India, Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina and southwestern China.

Notes:— Coelogyne picta is included in the synonymy after analysis of its description. The literature is confused about the differences between C. assamica and C. fuscescens , which could be just one variable species.
