Distribution:— India, the Himalayas, Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina and southwestern, southern and southeastern China.

Note:— Several collections from Mindat District (Chin State) differ from typical P. densus by having long, threadlike lip side lobes that are three to four times as long as the midlobe. In this respect they are superficially similar to P. tipulifer (C.S.P.Parish & Rchb.f.) Mukerjee, P. tentaculatus (Lindl.) J.J.Sm. , P. calcaratus (Rolfe) S.Y.Hu and P. monticola (Ridl.) Seidenf. However , these specimens are clearly different from the first two species by having elongate, cylindric, only slightly clavate lip spurs, and from the last two species in their significantly larger flower size.
