Parascyphus simplex (Lamouroux, 1816) View in CoL
( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8. A ‒ D K–M)
Material examined. Corral, Chaihuin/Huiro, lat. -39.95000, long. -73.61667, 10.vii.2012, 5‒ 10 m, sample 03: sterile colony on sponge, stems up to 1.7 cm high (MHNG-INVE-86255).
Remarks. For a description of the trophosome and synonymy, see Vervoort & Watson (2003). The gonothecae were observed only in rare instances [e.g. Bale (1915), Trebilcock (1928), Hodgson (1959), and Watson (2003b)]. Accurate measurements are given by Ritchie (1909), Totton (1930), and Hodgson (1959). Distribution in Chile. The present record from Corral is the first for the country.
World records. Australia, Bass Strait, Tasmania, Gough Island, Vema seamount, South Africa ( Vervoort & Watson 2003).
