Genus Zosimus Leach in Desmarest, 1823

Type species. Zosimus aeneus (Linnaeus, 1758) (subsequent designation by Guinot 1967)

Remarks. Desmarest (1823: 228) narrated the erection of the genus by W. E. Leach based on his unpublished work. Guinot (1967: 559) designated Z. aeneus (Linnaeus, 1758) as the only species for the genus but suggested conservatively to include Platypodia actaeoides (A. Milne Edwards, 1867) , Platypodia maculata (De Man, 1887) and Actaea hawaiiensis Rathbun, 1906 . Ng et al. (2008: 210) moved A. hawaiiensis , Lophactaea actaeoides A. Milne Edwards, 1867 , L. fissa Henderson, 1893 L. maculata De Man, 1887 , and Cancer sculptus Herbst, 1794 , to the genus on the basis of their proposed generic characters of Zosimus . Currently, the genus consists of the above-mentioned 6 species and a questionable species, Zosimus laevis Dana, 1852 , which has been named as Zozymus laevis in the original description ( Dana 1852: 77; Ng et al. 2008: 206). In Taiwan, only Z. aeneus has been reported ( Ng et al. 2017). The present finding of Z. maculata represents the first record of this species for Taiwan.
