Tachysphex brevipennis Mercet, 1909 View in CoL
Distribution in the Arabian Peninsula: Arabian Peninsula ( Bohart & Menke 1976 as Tachysphex fulvicornis Turner, 1918 ), Oman ( Guichard 1980 as T. fulvicornis ; Pulawski 2007; Roche 2007), Saudi Arabia ( Pulawski 1971 as Tachysphex imperfectus de Beaumont, 1940 ; Gadallah & Assery 2004b as T. fulvicornis ; Pulawski 2007; Roche 2007; Gadallah et al. 2013), United Arab Emirates ( Roche 1981 as Tachysphex rugosus Gussakovskij, 1952 ; Hamer 1986, 1988 both as T. rugosus ; Gillett & Gillett 2005 as T. rugosus ; Howarth & Gillett 2008 as Tachysphex minutus Nurse, 1909 ; Straka & Schmid-Egger 2017 as T. fulvicornis and Tachysphex quadrifurci Pulawski, 1971 ), Yemen ( Pulawski 2007; Roche 2007).
Extralimital distribution: Africa, Iberian Peninsula, southwestern Europe north to Hungary and Romania, Azerbaijan and Turkey to Israel, Transcaspia, Pakistan and India.
Remarks: Tachysphex fulvicornis and T. quadrifurci were effectively synonymized with T. brevipennis by Pulawski (2007). Straka & Schmid-Egger (2017) treated both T. fulvicornis and T. quadrifurci as valid species, however, stating that two morphological forms are present in the Arabian Peninsula. The synonymy of both with T. brevipennis was reconfirmed by Pulawski (2019) who considered the evidence provided insufficient to justify Straka & Schmid-Egger’s stance.
