Genus Australiotiphys Cook, 1986

Australiotiphys Cook, 1986 , pp. 202–203, figs. 1059, 1060, 1062–1068. Australiotiphys: Harvey, 1996 , pp. 365–372, figs. 11–31.

Australiotiphys: Harvey, 1998 , p. 92, figs. 2B, 12E, 15I, 28D, 28H.

Diagnosis. Larva: Unknown.

Adults (modified from Cook 1986): Character states of subfamily Tiphyinae. Fourth coxal plates with large, anteriorly convex projections covering insertions of fourth legs. Pedipalp with segments relatively long and slender and with tibia bearing a short, peg-like, sessile seta. Genital field bearing four to twelve pairs of acetabula. Males with genital acetabula relatively close together and borne on rounded acetabular plates that completely encircle gonopore and do not extend laterally beyond posteromedial angles of fourth coxal plates; second leg with tibia lacking two spatulate setae distoventrally; fourth leg with distal segments unmodified, or modified with genu slightly expanded and bearing a row of long, blade-like or paddle-like setae ventrally, and tibia slightly expanded and bearing a row of blade-like setae postroventrally and a row of long swimming setae anteriorly. Females with genital acetabula relatively close together and borne on acetabular plates that are either rounded or roughly semicircular in shape.

Type species. Australiotiphys magnisetus Cook.

Species included. Australiotiphys magnisetus Cook , A. barmutai Harvey , A. himonius Harvey , all from Australia.

Distribution. Australia.

Discussion. Cook (1986) and Harvey (1996, 1998) treated Australiotiphys as a distinct genus, and we follow that treatment here.
