Material examined. 1 n-ov. female, 1 ov. female, Ilha de Santa Bárbara (17°57'30”S 38°42'23”W), coll. R.M.C. Barbosa & L.M. Fernandes, 03.ix. 2013, 10 m, in sponge, UESC 1562.
Distribution. Western Atlantic—Bermuda, Florida, Bahamas, West Indies, Panama, and Brazil (Ceará to Rio Grande do Sul) ( Christoffersen 1979, 1998; Bezerra & Coelho 2006).
Previous records from Abrolhos. R/V Calypso, Sta. 84, south coast of Ilha de Santa Bárbara (18°18’S 38°53’W), 0.8 m; R/V Calypso, Sta. 89 (18°18.5’S 38°53’W), 38 m ( Christoffersen 1979).
Remarks. Synalpheus brevicarpus is a transisthmian species complex, which includes several cryptic species in the western Atlantic (Almeida et al. 2012; Anker et al. 2012; Hultgren et al. 2014).
