Remarks. Although widely reported from the southwestern Pacific to the western Indian Ocean, the present specimens are the first records from the west coast of India. The characteristic colour pattern (paired black-squares on abdominal somite 5) is eVident, as are the low posterodorsal carinae on the telson reported for larger specimens (Manning 1978b; Ahyong 2001).

Distribution. Western Pacific from Japan and Australia westwards to India, east Africa and the Red Sea; 13– 110 (Ahyong 2001).
