Material examined. Tamil Nadu: ZRC, 1 female (TL 80 mm), PaZhayar Fish Landing, Nagapattinam, TN 170911 / 2, coll. R. Lasley, B.Y. Lee & N.K. Ng, 17 Sep 2011.

Remarks. The specimen reported here agrees well with published accounts of Miyakella nepa (Manning 1968; Ahyong 2001; Ahyong et al. 2008). Abdominal spination is as follows: submedian 4–6, intermediate 3–6, lateral 2–6, marginal 1–5. Miyakella nepa occurs throughout Indian waters; along the southwest coast, it is fished in large quantities from NoVember to April (Shanbogue 1986).

Distribution. Western Indian Ocean to India, Australia, the South China Sea, Taiwan and New Caledonia; doubtfully from French Polynesia; shallow water to at least 85 m (Ahyong & Naiyanetr 2002).
