Endeis sp.
Material: New Caledonia: 1 female (MNHNPy 1054), Lagon de Nouvelle Caledonie Campagne WOODIN, Baie Jeantau, 8 m, 22/03/2001; coll. C. Peignon.
Remarks: It is almost impossible to speciate solitary females in this genus. This specimen has an attenuated trunk, long and very slender leg articles, and sharply pointed ocular and lateralprocess tubercles. The leg articles are without long spines or spineswellings, an absence typical of, for example, E. mollis (Carpenter, 1904) but the trunk is much more attenuate than that of Carpenter’s species. Indeed, the only species of Endeis with an attenuated trunk which has been recorded from this area is E. raleighi Bamber, 1992 , but the legs of that species are more compact than is shown by the present specimen. Its identity (or novelty) must await the collection of males from this area.
