Genus Neoprimaspis nom. n.

Primaspis Howell, 1995: 202 (Mandibulata: Hexapoda: Hemiptera : Diaspididae ), preoccupied by Primaspis Richter & Richter, 1917: 466 (Mandibulata: Trilobita : Odontoplurida: Odontopluridae).

Type species: Primaspis tippinsi Howell, 1995: 203-206 .

Remarks on nomenclatural change. Howell (1995) established the armoured scale genus Primaspis with the type species Primaspis tippinsi Howell 1995 . It is a valid genus in Hemiptera: Coccomorpha : Diaspididae , subfamily Diaspidinae , tribe Lepidosaphidini ( Normark et al. 2019) . The genus is monotypic and is known only from Mexico.

Unfortunately, the name Primaspis Howell 1995 is preoccupied by Primaspis Richter & Richter 1917 , a fossil trilobite genus belonging to Mandibulata: Trilobita: Odontoplurida: Odontopluridae, based on the type species Odontopleura primordialis Barrande 1846 . Thus, Primaspis Howell 1995 is a junior homonym of Primaspis Richter & Richter 1917 . According to Article 60 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, a new replacement name is proposed for Primaspis Howell 1995 : Neoprimaspis nom. nov.

Etymology. The replacement name is derived from the pre-existing name Primaspis , combined with the prefix “neo- ” from the Greek “ neos ” meaning new; gender feminine.
