Harpalus (Ophonus) subquadratus Dejean, 1829: 210 View in CoL .
The specimen here designated as lectotype is a male bearing the labels: “ subquadratus m. in Gallia merid.”, “Aude.” and “ Lectotype of Harpalus (Ophonus) subquadratus Dejean, 1829 desig. by J. Serrano ” .
Dejean (1829) probably studied a number of specimens of O. subquadratus as he stated that: Il se trouve dans le midi de la France... The current concept of the species matches the characters shown by the lectotype, as seen in Jeannel (1942), Sciaky, 1987), Wrase (2004, 2011).
It is distributed in the Mediterranean Basin and to the east it reaches Turkmenistan.
