Harpalus (Ophonus) pumilio Dejean, 1829: 212 View in CoL .
The specimen here recognized as holotype is a male bearing the labels: “ pumilio m. in Sicilia ”, “Schüppel.” and “ Holotype of Harpalus (Ophonus) pumilio Dejean, 1829 . J. Serrano vidit.” Dejean (1829) wrote Je ne possède qu’un individu mâle de cette espèce; il m’a été envoyé par M. Schùppel, comme venant de Sicile.
The species is currently known as Ophonus (Hesperophonus) pumilio , as it shows the key characters of subgenus Hesperophonus Antoine, 1959 . It has a small body size and a combination of dorsal colouration and leg characters that make it easily identifiable ( Fuente, 1927; Antoine, 1959; Sciaky, 1987).
This species is distributed in the western Mediterranean (but not in France; Kataev & Wrase, 2017c).
