Harpalus oblitus Dejean, 1829: 273 View in CoL .
The specimen here recognized as holotype is a male glued to a white card that is pinned together with other labels: “ oblitus m. in Dalmatia ”, “ TYPE. Kataev des.” and “ Holotype of Harpalus oblitus oblitus Dejean, 1829 . J. Serrano vidit.” .
In the same box of Chaudoir's collection containing the beetles of Dejean (box number 175) it is also found the type of Harpalus oblitus patruelis Dejean, 1829: 275 , together with other specimens, bearing various kinds of labels: white card with glued beetle/white card with glued genitalia/white card “ patruelis m. in Hispania”/red card “ TYPE ”/white card “ H. patruelis Dej. = subspecies of oblitus Dej. Z. Mylnář det. 1973”/ Kataev/ Harpalus oblitus patruelis B. Kataev det 2002.
The taxonomy and distribution of the subspecies of H. oblitus was reviewed by Kataev (1993). There are two currently recognized subspecies: the nominal one occupies the eastern Mediterranean whereas H. oblitus patruelis is found in the western part.
