Distribution: In Brazil it occurs in almost the entire country with the exception of some states of the Northeast ( Flora do Brasil 2020). In ParNa Iguaçu it occurs in the Céu Azul and Foz do Iguaçu areas.
Reproductive period: According to Sartori & Tozzi (1998) this species flowers from November to March and fruits from March to June. In ParNa Iguaçu it was found in flower and fruit in March and only in fruit in July.
Diagnostic characteristics: The genus is recognized by its arboreal habit with alternate leaflets, samara fruits and seeds with basal position. M. hirtum is characterized by its narrow oblong leaflets, up to 58 per leaf, pairs of nodal and internodal prickles and samaras with an obovate wing.
Conservation: Native-NE.
