Melissoptila chilena Urban View in CoL

This species is characterized by the densely haired hind tibiae and basitarsi in both sexes. The male has plumose pilosity on mesepisternum and the length of F2 is more than 2x the length of F1. The female has a broad distal translucent band, slightly yellowish on terga. Upper paraocular area micro-reticulated and shiny, reaching the lateral ocelli ( Urban 1998a). Male genitalia was illustrated by Moure & Michener (1955) and Urban (1998a).

Melissoptila chilena occurs exclusively in Chile. There are distributional records from the Regions of Coquimbo and Santiago (Metropolitan) . There are no floral records available.
