Distribution: Central and southern Europe, Iberian Peninsula, North Africa ( Algeria, Morocco, Lybia, Tunisia), western Asia ( Pinedo 1984).

Bioclimatic zones: Humid, subhumid.
Records in Algeria: Ain Drean swamp [36°41'N 7°44'E], surroundings of La Calle [El Kala] [36°53’N 8°26’E] ( Lucas 1849, as Conocephalus mandibularis Charpentier, 1825 ). Réghaia swamp [36°24'N 3°09'E] ( Molinari 1989). Oubeira Lake [36°49’N 8°22’E] ( Zeghlache 1997). Tizi Ouzou [36°43’N 4°3’E] (Mohamed Sahnoun pers. obs.).
