COPESTYLUM VITTATUM THOMPSON, 1976 View in CoL
Larva and puparium ( Fig. 22 View Figures 20–22 ): Anterior fold without extra large spicules. Anterior spiracles with three openings. Anterodorsal margin of mesothorax with groups of mostly broad setae and up to six spicules mostly in one row. Abdominal vestiture of long, upright setae. Anal lobe with pale, indistinct spicules. Vestiture between prolegs of fine not broad setae. Posterior breathing tube orange, not tapering. AP punctured, shiny, and as long as TR is wide ( Fig. 46 View Figures 44–47 ). Posterior spiracular openings shaped as simple curves ( Fig. 45 View Figures 44–47 ). Pupal spiracles orange, matt, shining apically, and with three encircling rings of openings in upper half ( Fig. 47 View Figures 44–47 ). Pupal spiracles 1.7¥ as wide apart as a pupal spiracle is long.
Taxonomic notes: Copestylum vittatum is similar to other members of the Pictum group that have nontapering posterior breathing tubes such as C. florida , C. pachecoi , and C. santarosae . It is distinguished from these species by the punctured AP ( Fig. 46 View Figures 44–47 ), absence of broad setae between the prolegs, and only up to five spicules in one row on each side of the anterodorsal margin of the mesothorax. It is most similar to C. florida in having a punctured AP but differs from that species in having an AP that is as long as the width of the TR. In C. florida the AP is longer than the TR.
