Type host: Gallus gallus (Linnaeus) ( Galliformes : Phasianidae ) from Europe.

FEMALE (10 specimens from type host species from Poland). Total body length 900–985. Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum apunctate. Each medial branch of peritremes with 4–5 chambers, each lateral branch with 8–9 chambers. Stylophore apunctate, 345–365 long. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield punctate at lateral margins. Length ratio of setae vi: ve: si 1:2:2–2.5. Setae vi, ve and si slightly beaded. Shape and ornamentation of hysteronotal shield varriable, extending to level of bases of setae e2 or d2. All hysteronotal setae subequal in length. Aggenital setae ag2 and ag3 1.2 times longer than ag1. Genital setae about 1.5 times longer than pseudanal setae. Coxal fields I–IV weakly sclerotized, apunctate. Setae 3c 1.8–2 times longer than 3b. Legs. Fan-like setae p’ and p” of legs III and IV with 14 tines. Setae tc”III–IV 1.4 times longer than tc’III–IV. Lengths of setae: vi 65–85, ve 150–155, si 185–190, se 210–270, c1 210–250, c2 200, d1 140–155, d2 150–160, e2 140, f1 30–35, f2 490–575, h1 35, h2 540–570, ps1 and ps2 25, g1 and g2 35–45, 3a 190–215, ag1 265–280, ag2 320, ag3 330–335, l’RI 40–45, l’RII 45–50, l’RIII 60–65, l’RIV 55–60, tc’III–IV 55–60, tc”III–IV 70–85, 3b 90–95, 3c 160–200.

MALE (5 specimens from type host species from Poland). Total body length 770–775. Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum apunctate. Each medial branch of peritremes with 4–5 chambers, each lateral branch with 9–11 chambers. Stylophore apunctate, 235 long. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield well sclerotized, punctate on lateral margins, concave on anterior and posterior margins. Length ratio of setae vi: ve: si 1:1.5–1.6:1.9–2. Setae c1 situated slightly anterior to level of setae se. Hysteronotal shield fused to pygidial shield, apunctate, bearing bases of setae d1, e2, f2 and h2. Setae d2 about 5 times longer than d1 and e2. Length rato of setae f2: h2 1:10–11. Setae g2 situated anterior to level of setae g1, and twice as long as g1. Aggenital setae ag2 1.2–1.4 times longer than ag1. Coxal fields I–IV well sclerotized, apunctate. Setae 3c twice as long as 3b. Legs. Fan-like setae p’ and p” of legs III–IV with 12 tines. Setae tc”III–IV 1.8 times shorter than tc’III–IV. Lengths of setae: vi 125–130, ve 200–210, si 250, se 270–290, c1 320, c2 255, d1 45–55, d2 205–220, e2 40 –45, h2 430, f2 40, ag1 220, ag2 260–310, l’RIII 95–110, l’RIV 75, tc’III–IV 40–45, tc”III–IV 80–85, 3b 95–120, 3c 200–205.

Type material (not examined). All type material is lost ( Kethley 1970).

Non-type material examined. Gallus gallus domesticus ( Galliformes : Phasianidae ): 28 females, 8 males, 21 nymphs and 7 larvae ( AMU –SYR.1) (cov., sec.); POLAND, Wielkopolska, Szklarka Przygodzicka , 20 March 1999, coll. T. Rutkowski. Material deposited in the AMU . Same host species: 11 females, 1 male, 2 nymphs and 3 larvae ( AVB 05–0715 001 ); RUSSIA, Moscow (55°45'00"N, 37°42'00"E), 6 February 1965, coll. unknown. Material deposited in the ZISP . Same host species: 2 females ( AVB 05–0715 002 ); KIRGHIZIA, Chüy, Sokuluk village (43°05'00"N, 74°09'00"E), 17 May 1990, coll. N. Kravtsova. Material deposited in the ZISP . Same host species: 1 female ( AVB 05–0715 003 ); UKRAINE, Kiev (50°26'00"N, 30°31'00"E), 16 September 1955, coll. R. Chebotarev. Material deposited in the ZISP . Same host species: 1 female ( AVB 05–0715 004 ); BIELORUSSIA, Vitebsk (55°10'00"N, 30°14'00"E), 3 June 1962, coll. Vorobiev. Material deposited in the ZISP . Alectoris rufa (Linnaeus) (Phasianidae) : 15 females, 1 males, 4 nymphs and 1 larva ( AMU –SYR.19); FRANCE, Corsica, no other data. Host specimen deposited in the MNHW. Material deposited in the AMU .

Host range and habitat. Oligoxenous species inhabiting quills of coverts, secondaries, alulars and tertials of Gallus gallus dom . and Alectoris rufa .

Distribution. This species is the distributed worldwide along with its hosts. In the Palaearctic, it is reported from: France, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Belorussia, Russia, Kirghizia, and China.

Remark. Besides above mentioned two host species, S. bipectinatus has been also recorded from Ptilopachus petrosus (Gmelin) ( Skoracki & Sikora 2003) from Cameroon.
