Type host: Riparia riparia (Linnaeus) ( Passeriformes : Hirundinidae ). Type locality: Poland.

Description. FEMALE (holotype). Total body length 645 (585–650 in 4 paratypes). Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum densely punctate. Each medial branch of peritremes with 3–4 chambers, each lateral branch with 3–4 chambers. Length of apunctate stylophore and movable cheliceral digit 160 (160–170) and 115 (115) respectively. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield with indistinct posterior margin, apunctate. Length ratio of setae ve:si 1:1. Setae se situated distinctly anterior to level of c1. Hysteronotal shield present not fused to pygidial shield, situated between bases of setae d1 and e2, apunctate. Setae d1 set closer to d2 than to e2. Pygidial shield well sclerotized, apunctate, anterior margin indiscernible. Length ratio of setae f1:f2 1:6–8. Length ratio of aggenital setae ag1:ag2:ag3 1.2:1:1.7. Pseudanal setae ps1 and ps2 subequal in length. Both pairs of genital setae subequal in length. All coxal fields punctate. Setae 3c about twice as long as 3b. Legs. Fan-like setae p’ and p” of legs III and IV with 8 tines. Setae tc” of legs III and IV 1.3–1.4 times longer than and tc’ III–IV. Lengths of setae: ve 40 (40–45), si 40 (40–45), se 215 (180– 215), c1 225 (205–220), c2 195 (180–195), d1 160 (160–180), d2 205 (170–200), e2 180 (140–205), f1 30 (30–40), f2 200 (175–200), h1 45 (45–50), h2 (330), ps1 and ps2 25 (25), g1 and g2 30 (30–35), ag1 100 (95–100), ag2 85 (80–85), ag3 (115–150), tc’ III–IV (45–50), tc” III–IV (65), 3b (35–45), 3c (70–75).

MALE. Unknown.

Type material. Riparia riparia (Linnaeus) ( Passeriformes : Hirundinidae ): female holotype and 5 female paratypes ( AMU –SYR.246) (sec.); POLAND, Wielkopolska, Katy , April 2006, coll. M. Skoracki.

Type deposition. All type material deposited in the UAM.

Host range and habitat. Monoxenous species occupying quills of secondary feathers of Riparia riparia .

Distribution. Poland.

Etymology. The name riparius refers to the name of the host.

Differential diagnosis. See differential diagnosis of N. picidus .
