Pycnoderes quadrimaculatus Guérin-Méneville, 1857: 404 View in CoL (orig. descrip.).

Diagnosis. Body oval elongate. Head, pronotum, and scutellum black. Hemelytra blackish, with a pale spot on anterior and posterior margin of embolium; cuneus pale; basal margin of large cell fuscous. Legs pale, except for fuscous apex of hind femur. Length 2.95–3.65 mm.

Hosts. Amaranthus sp. [ Amaranthaceae ], Cucurbita maxima Wall. [ Cucurbitaceae ], and Phaseolus vularis Wall. [ Fabaceae ] ( Ferreira et al., 2001). This pest species, known as the bean capsid, feeds on the undersurface of its host leaves, often causing severe chlorosis and leaf dieback ( Wheeler, 2001).

Distribution. Brazil, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Mexico, Puerto Rico, United States (Carvalho, 1957); Suriname ( Carvalho and Rosas, 1965); Peru ( Carvalho and Ferreira, 1972); Colombia, Guatemala, Panama ( Carvalho and Afonso, 1977).
