Alexander, 1944b: 302–304 (original description). Type locality: Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, Itatiaia. Paratype female with labels: (1) handwritten on white paper: “ Brazil | Alto | Itatiaya | Mar. 41 [March, 1941 | L. Gomes”(2) printed with handwritten inscriptions on blue paper: “ PARATYPE Ψ | Tipula | itatiayensis | C. P. Alexander”.
Preservation: mounted at the tips of two pinned paper triangles. Missing parts: most legs except left hind leg.
