Ribeiro & Amorim, 2002: 8–10 (original description); 9, figures 13 (head), 14 (antenna), 15 (maxillary palpi), 16 (thorax) and 17 (wing); 10, figures 18 and 19 (male terminalia). Type locality: Brazil, São Paulo, Cajuru. Holotype male with labels: (1) printed on white paper: “ Brazil, São Paulo, Cajuru | Faz. Rio Grande | 21°12'S, 47°09'W | 02–18/xii/1999 | G. Melo & F. Nascimento | White malaise trap”; (2) printed with red font on white paper: “ Elephantomyia corniculata | Ribeiro & Amorim, 2002. | Male Holotype ”.
Preservation: Slide mounted specimen. Missing parts: most legs except left front leg.
