Type species: Acylophorus ahrensii Nordmann, 1837

Description. For detailed description see Smetana (1971) and Lott (2010).

Note. Bierig (1938) and Smetana (1971) described several subgenera for some Nearctic and Neotropical species. Lott (2010) grouped species from sub-Saharan Africa and one species from Madagascar to various species groups. In the present revision, Lott’s concept of species groups was followed and extended to include additional species from Madagascar and the Mascarene Islands.
