This species, which is relatively rare, is found in moist broadleaf forests in the Australasian and Oriental Regions ( Petney and Keirans 1995; Guglielmone et al. 2014). It occurs on numerous reptile and mammal hosts ( Audy et al. 1960). Within continental Southeast Asia, it has been reported from peninsular Malaysia ( Audy et al. 1960) and Thailand ( Anastos 1950). Parthenogenetic reproduction has also been reported ( Ho and Ismail 1984).
The female, nymph and larva are described in Voltzit and Keirans (2002).
