Chaetonotus (Hystricochaetonotus) aemilianus Balsamo, 1978

Localities. A pond near Waterloo and a pond in the Puslinch district.

Material. 6 specimens.

The Canadian samples contain 4 variations of the very variable C. (H.) aemilianus   . One of them, designated Chaetonotus   sp. C 7, is so different that it should be described as a new species once more material can be acquired.

Chaetonotus   sp. C 7 has 10–12 macrospines in the trunk region. True base scales are absent and the spines are anchored by cuticular protuberances. The macrospines are arranged in 5 columns, there are no short spines on the dorsal surface. Short spines are present laterally. Dorsal scales without spines could not be observed.
