Protosmia megaceps ( Kohl, 1906) View in CoL
( Figs 104, 105 View Figs 99–107. 99–100 )
Osmia megaceps Kohl, 1906: 14 View in CoL (type locality: Socotra, Ras Shoab). Osmia megaceps Kohl, 1907: 182 View in CoL (junior homonym and objective synonym). Protosmia megaceps: UNGRICHT et al. (2008) View in CoL : 200 (new combination).
Material examined. Sokotra: Ras Shoab, 1 J 1 ♀, i.1899, O. Simony lgt., F. Kohl det. ( NHMW).
Remarks. Known from one male and one female of the type series only. Protosmia Ducke, 1900 is a widely distributed Holarctic genus of bees that is missing in Africa (except the north) with a few rare Arabian species ( ASCHER & PICKERING 2017). For this reason we suspect Palaearctic origin of this endemic Socotran species.
Distribution. Endemic to Socotra.
