Diagnosis. Species of the genus Chthonius with lagyniform chela (sensu Judson 2007), pedipalpal hand clearly constricted distad of trichobothria ib-isb (between the groups of trichobothria ib-isb and eb-esb-ist), with dorsum out-line step-like; pedipalpal fingers mostly straight, homo- or heterodentate, bearing spaced and upright teeth; tip of fixed chelal finger of male, tritonymph and deutonymph with a deep hollow on paraxial face, lacking in female; base of movable chelal finger with a strongly sclerotized internal apodeme.
Type species. Scorpio tetrachelatus Preyssler, 1790 , by subsequent designation of Hoff (1949).
