Type material

Holotype. Male, labelled ‘ CHINA: Sichuan Prov. / Luding County / Hailuogou / alt. 1900–2000 m / 26 July 2006 / HU and TANG leg.’.

Description

Male. Body reddish brown, mouthparts and tarsi lighter; BL 1.64. Head ( Figure 3J View Figure 3 ) slightly wider than long, HL 0.34, HW 0.37. Vertexal foveae indistinct, median line of foveae located at level of posterior margin of eyes; LE: LP = 1.62: 1. Eyes moderately developed, prominent, each comprises about 20 facets. Antennae with scapes thick and large; pedicels larger than antennomeres III, III, VII and VIII subequal in width, IV–VI narrower than III, subequal in width, IX–XI ( Figure 5D View Figure 5 ) strongly clubbed; semi-membranous apophysis on antennomere IX as in Figure 7J View Figure 7 ; antennomere X much wider than long, XI with single large and elongate basal protuberance bearing tuft of specialized setae at apex.

Pronotum slightly longer than wide, PL 0.37, PW 0.35. Elytra combined wider than long, EL 0.58, EW 0.68. Abdomen wider than long, AL 0.35, AW 0.60; tergite IV more than three times as long as next. Length of aedeagus ( Figure 8J View Figure 8 ) 0.12.

Female. Unknown.

Habitat and distribution

Sifted from the mixed leaf litter of a broad-leaved forest. Southwest China (Sichuan)

Etymology

The specific name is derived from the type locality.

Remarks

Sathytes sichuanicus is similar to those with single basal protuberance on antennomere XI. It can be separated by the protuberance being relatively long, the apophysis of antennomere IX obliquely inserted and pointed posteriorly, and aedeagus with two widely separated minute apical setae.
