Type material

Holotype. Male, labelled ‘ CHINA: Yunnan Prov. / Gongshan County / Qiqi , alt. 1900 m / 2 July 2010 / Liang TANG leg.’.

Description

Male. Body reddish brown, mouthparts and tarsi lighter; BL 2.12. Head ( Figure 3O View Figure 3 ) slightly wider than long, HL 0.43, HW 0.47. Vertexal foveae quite indistinct, anterior edge of foveae at level of posterior margin of eyes; LE: LP = 1: 1. Eyes moderately developed, each comprises about 20 facets. Antennae with scapes thick and large; pedicels larger than antennomeres III, IV–VI subequal in width, VII–VIII subequal in width, slightly wider than VI, IX–XI ( Figure 6C View Figure 6 ) strongly clubbed; semi-membranous apophysis on antennomere IX as in Figure 7O View Figure 7 ; antennomere X much wider than long, XI ( Figure 6J View Figure 6 ) with single truncate basal protuberance covered with tuft of long setae and with indistinct semi-sclerotized swelling at posterior margin of protuberance.

Pronotum about as long as wide, PL 0.48, PW 0.46. Elytra combined wider than long, EL 0.65, EW 0.80. Abdomen wider than long, AL 0.56, AW 0.71; tergite IV 3.7 times as long as next. Length of aedeagus ( Figure 8O View Figure 8 ) 0.13.

Female. Unknown.

Habitat and distribution

Sifted from the mixed leaf litter of a broad-leaved forest. Southwest China (Yunnan).

Etymology

The species is named after its type locality.

Remarks

Sathytes yunnanicus resembles S. cristatus in most external characters, and also shares a similar aedeagal form, as discussed above. They may be readily separated by the semimembranous apophysis of antennomere IX being slightly longer and the posterior margins of the basal protuberance of antennomere XI with a minute semi-sclerotized swelling in S. yunnanicus .
