Syntypes: 2 (2 slides) [Canada]. Ont.[ario], Chatham, 28.vii.1931, [beneath rotting poplar bark], H.G. James (CNC 348082, Type No. 3736 and CNC 165147, Type No. 3736).

This species is listed as valid by Christiansen & Bellinger (1980–1981: 226), but Stach (1949: 232) considered it a synonym of X. brevisimilis Stach , and Gisin (1944b: 129) considered it a synonym of X. maritima Tullberg, 1869 ; Gama (1988) did not include it in the Xenylla world checklist.
