This species has been synonymized by Grant (1964) under Euceraia rufovariegata (Chopard, 1918) . According to Grant, who relied on Piza’s description and sketchy illustration of the male abdomen tip, there are two morphologically different populations, whose conspicuous coloration, however, is uniform. The male neotype of E. rufovariegata and the male holotype of E. rufithorax are very different in coloration, the latter lacking the prominent dark red markings completely.
