Corethrella andersoni Poinar and Szadziewski View in CoL
Corethrella andersoni Poinar and Szadziewski 2007:155 View in CoL . Type locality: amber mine in the Hukawng Valley GoogleMaps , southwest of Maingkhwan, Katchin (26°20'N, 96°36'E), Myanmar. Holotype ♀ (GEPC).
DIAGNOSIS: Male adult: unknown. Female adult: only fossil species of Corethrella with short R 2 and R 3 (with R 3 about 0.2 wing length); also only fossil known with scales present over all of each leg (including all tarsomeres).
DESCRIPTION: Male adult. Unknown.
Female adult. As described by Poinar and Szadziewski (2007).
Immatures. Unknown.
DISTRIBUTION: Corethrella andersoni is known only from Burmese amber, dated at 100–110 million years old.
TAXONOMIC DISCUSSION: The holotype, representing the only specimen known, was unavailable for study. Poinar and Szadziewski (2007) considered the short R 2 and R 3 to be unique in C. andersoni but these veins are also short (but not quite as short) in C. brevivena (Fig. 67F); these two species are unique in the genus in having the fork of R 2+3 distal to the fork of M 1+2.
Corethrella andersoni is unplaced to subgenus because features of the unknown male, as well as further character states of the female fossil, presently not available, make its phylogenetic placement uncertain.
DERIVATION OF SPECIFIC EPITHET: The name andersoni was proposed for Scott Anderson who provided the specimen for study by Poinar and Szadziewski.
