Cypridea obovata obovata Swain, 1946 of Wicher (1959)
Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 , 2a–c View FIGURE 2
1946 Paracypridea obovata n. sp. —Swain, p. 551, pl. 83, figs 14–15.
Diagnosis: Cypridea obovata obovata is an inverse species of the genus Cypridea , but in contrast to the German Cypridea species the posterior end is higher than the anterior end.
Figured specimen: T.-K.-Nr. 3168.
Dimensions: (greatest) length 1.41mm, height 0.58mm, width 0.88mm.
Remarks (Bate et al. herein): Swain (1946) placed the species obovata into a new subgenus of Cypridea which he named Paracypridea and “defined to include Cypridea -like species in which the anterior end is lower than the posterior end, and in which, at least in known examples, the right valve is larger than the left.” ( Swain 1946, p. 548). Paracypridea was raised to generic level by Krömmelbein (1961). Wicher’s figure, a drawing x30, shows dimensions larger than those he published (above), as is the case with some other species noted below.
