Tribe Ipini

Ipini is represented by four genera: Ips , Orthotomicus , Pityogenes and Pityokteines ( Table 1 View TABLE 1 ).

Key to genera

1. Pronotal base armed with punctures and a longitudinal, flat callus. Female frons with either a deep fovea or flat with dense hairs. Frons of male flat with short hairs. Declivity broaden, deep or flat with 1−3 pairs of small teeth along the lateral sides. Posterior margin of elytra covering the abdominal ventrites. 1.5−3.5 mm …............................... Pityogenes View in CoL

- Pronotal base punctured and with a flat, non-elevated longitudinally line. Frons always without fovea. Declivity with 3−5 pairs of hook-like teeth along the lateral sides.................................................................. ... 2

2. Elytra with striae posteriorly weakly widened and covered with very large punctures. Declivity with three pairs of teeth (male) or small tubercles (female). Second teeth hook-like in male, just a tubercle in female. Interstriae with only a line of small punctures. Female frons with dense and long yellow hairs. Male frons with short disperse hairs and a median line. 1.6−3.2 mm long…..................................................................................... Pityokteines View in CoL

- Elytra cylindrical, without large punctures. Declivity with tubercles or hook-like teeth. Frons with sparse hairs…......... 3

3. Declivity with 3 or 4 pairs of conical teeth. Declivity oblique; the posterior edge explaned horizobntally, slightly flat. Interstriae wider than striae. 2.2−8.0 mm long….............................................................. Ips View in CoL

- Declivity cylindrical, with 3−5 pairs of tubercles or cones. Declivity nearly vertical posterior edge not explaned. Interstriae not wider than striae. 1.6−5.0 mm long........................................................... … Orthotomicus View in CoL
