Kuzicus (Kuzicus) compressus Han & Shi View in CoL sp. nov.
Figs. A – I.
Description. Male.
Head. Fastigium of vertex conical, apex obtusely rounded, with a longitudinal sulcus dorsally. Eyes globular, protruding outward. Maxillary palpi long, apical segment almost equal to subapical one, apex widened.
Thorax. Pronotum short, anterior margin slightly projecting in middle, posterior margin obtusely rounded; humeral sinus indistinct, metazona raised. Thoracic auditory spiracle peanut-shaped, exposed.
Legs. Fore and middle legs broken. Hind femora without spines on ventral surface. Hind tibiae with 24 internal spines and 26 external spines on dorsal surface, 1 pair of ventral apical spurs and 2 pairs of dorsal apical spurs.
Wings. Tegmina narrowly long, surpassing apices of hind femora, apices rounded; hind wings longer than tegmina.
FIGURES A–I. Kuzicus (Kuzicus) compressus Han & Shi sp. nov., male: A. head and pronotum in dorsal view; B. head and pronotum in lateral view; C. apex of abdomen in dorsal view; D. apex of posterior processes of tenth abdominal tergite in apical view; E. apex of right cercus in ventro-lateral view; F. apex of right cercus in apico-dorsal view; G. apex of abdomen in lateral view; H. apex of abdomen in ventral view; I. epiphallus in ventral view.
Abdomen. Tenth abdominal tergite with a pair of posterior processes, which long, curved downward; posterior margin of apex slightly protruding, then widened (Figs C, G): dorsal area slightly broad, apex obtusely rounded; ventral area gradually narrowing, apex obtusely rounded; the every lateral margin with one minute tooth separately (Fig. D). Cerci distinctly curved inner-dorsally, base half broad, stout; apical half narrowing, depressed, subapical part becoming narrow suddenly, and apex spine-shaped (Figs. E–F); with an inner process nearly middle, base lamellar, triangular, apex spine-shaped. Epiphallus large, sclerotized, base broad, apex narrow, medial part convex ventrally; dorsal margin of apex broadened, lamellar; two lateral margins triangular, with two pairs of dentiform processes. Subgenital plate broad, almost rectangle; without styli.
Female. Unknown.
Coloration. Body light yellow (maybe light green when alive). Eyes yellowish brown. Inner edge of antennal pockets with one dark brown marking. The outer margin of the longitudinal sulcus on fastigium of vertex with one light brown stripe separately. Disc of pronotum with a broad longitudinal light brown stripe in midline, which widened in metazona; both anterior margin and posterior margin of the longitudinal stripe dark brown. Stridulatory area and some cells of tegmina with brown spots. Teeth on posterior processes of tenth abdominal tergite, apical spines of cerci, spineshaped processes on inner margin of cerci, and dentiform processes on apex of epiphallus dark brown.
Type material. Holotype: male, Sanjiangkou, Longling, Yunnan, 9 October, 2002, collected by Ying-Xian Situ.
Measurements (mm). Body: ♂12.3; pronotum: ♂3.3; tegmina: ♂16.4; hind femora: ♂11.1.
Distribution. China (Yunnan).
Etymology. The name of the new species is derived from the depressed apices of male cerci.
Discussion. This new species resembles to Kuzicus (Kuzicus) suzukii ( Matsumura & Shiraki, 1908) , but differs from the latter in the following characters: apex of epiphallus with four teeth; posterior processes of male tenth abdominal tergite broadened at apex; without styli.
