Distribution. C and S Europe, northwards to S Scandinavia. In Russia only recorded from the Urals.

Remarks. S. remissella might be a species complex. There are two externally different forms in our material from S Ural, one with unicolorous fuscous forewings and another with dark brown, basally ochreous forewings. We have not found any diagnostic differences in the genitalia between these two forms, and the size of adults seems to be variable in both forms as well. A revision of the genus Stomopteryx is needed to solve taxonomic problems in the group (see also next two species below).
