Type material. Holotype male, USA: Ohio, Highland County, Evans Road, Clear Creek , 30.ix.1986, M.J. Bolton ( ZMBN Type no. 455) . Paratypes: Ohio, Highland County, Rocky Fork , 30.ix.1986, 4 males, 4 pupal and 4 larval exuviae, M.J. Bolton ; Ohio, Delaware County, unnamed tributary to Olentangy River north of winter road, 15.x.1987, 1 female, 1 pupal and 1 larval exuviae, M.J. Bolton ( ZMBN, MJB) .

Etymology. From Latin, caudicula , caudal, referring to inferior volsella placed in apical part of the gonocoxite.

Diagnostic characters. The adult male is characterized by a strongly concave anterior margin of cibarial pump, palpomere 3 with 1 sensillum clavatum; superior volsella not developed; inferior volsella broad, placed caudally on gonocoxite; sternapodeme curved into U-shape, and lateral sternapodeme with large caudal attachment point. The female has 6 transparent lateral lamellae on coxosternapodeme, tergite IX with 2 large setae, and gonocoxite with 1 long seta. The pupa has no taeniate L-setae and shagreen on tergite I, tergites IV/V–VI/VII with somewhat thick shagreen, and 17–21 taeniae in fringe of anal lobe restricted to posterior half of lobe. The larvae are separable by the antenna shorter than head (AR 0.85–0.91), mentum with 3 median teeth, lateral tooth adjacent to median tooth very small, apex of second antennal segment with small blade, and head capsule integument smooth.
