Glyphipteryx [sic] suzukii Matsumura, 1931: 1079 View in CoL , no. 2190. TL: Japan (Hokkaido). Glyphipterix nigromarginata Issiki View in CoL : Heppner, 1982: 51; Diakonoff, 1986: 288, Pl. 13, Fig. 107 1−2.

Description. Adult ( Figs. 11−12 View FIGURES 6 − 13 ) with wingspan 12.5 mm.

Diagnosis. This species is included in the bergstraesserella -group, and can be separated from most species in the genus by the forewing with termen obliquely straight. It can be recognized from the members of this group by having a black terminal band bearing a series of six silvery-metallic subterminal dots.

Variations. Individuals from different localities vary considerably, especially in size and forewing pattern. Individuals from Heilongjiang Province (with wingspan of 8.0 mm; Fig. 13 View FIGURES 6 − 13 ) are remarkably smaller than those from Shaanxi Province (with wingspan of 12.5 mm; Figs. 11−12 View FIGURES 6 − 13 ). Besides, the forewing pattern from Heilongjiang Province matches the holotype better: the fifth costal streak sometimes reduced into a subcostal silvery-metallic dot, without a silvery-metallic dot below it; the fifth costal streak from Shaanxi Province never reduced into a subcostal silvery-metallic dot, with a silvery-metallic dot below it.

Material examined. CHINA, Shaanxi Province: 3 ♂♂, 2 ♀♀, Huoditang forest farm (33°25′N 108°27′E), Ningshan County, 1620 m, 10, 15.vi.1987, 25.v.1990, leg. Houhun Li, genitalia slide Nos. XYL04251♂, XYL04252♀, L92045 View Materials ♂; 2 ♀♀, Pingheliang (33°32′N 108°33′E), Ningshan County, 2100−2400 m, 10.vi.1987, leg. Houhun Li, genitalia slide No. L92046 View Materials , LTT12183; Heilongjiang Province: 4 ♂♂, 3 exs. (abdomen missed), Yichun City (47°44′N 128°50′E), 9, 11, 12, 24.vi.1964, genitalia slide Nos. [LYQ]93186 ♂, [LYQ]93187 ♂; 1 ♂, Wuying district (48°06′N 129°14′E), Yichun City, 21.vi.1974, leg. Youqiao Liu, genitalia slide No. [LYQ]93188.

Distribution. China (Shaanxi, Heilongjiang), Japan, Russia.

Remarks. This species varies in size considerably ( Diakonoff 1986), but the variations on the forewing pattern are seldom discussed. The collecting site of specimens from Shaanxi is located in the southern Mt. Qinling, which lies on the boundary between the Northeast and Southeast regions in China ( Xie et al. 2004). Considering the variations in the wing pattern and few differences in the genitalia features, as well as the barrier of Mt. Qinling, specimens from Shaanxi may represent a subspecies of G. nigromarginata .

Rare genital aberration occurs in the individual of G. nigromarginata . The left pair of apophyses, i. e., the left anterior and posterior apophyses, exhibits their normal status as shown in Fig. 29 View FIGURES 28 − 29 , while the right pair is aberrant.
