Type material. Holotype, ♂, RUSSIA, Tuva, 32 km SW Kyzyl, Elegest River, 22.VII.2014 (A. Lelej, V. Loktionov, M. Proshchalykin) [ IBSS]. Paratypes, RUSSIA: 1 ♂, Khakassia, 14 km SSW Abakan, Belyi Yar, Abakan River, 12.VII.2012 (VL, MP); 1 ♂, Tuva, 20 km SSW Erzin, Tore-Khol Lake, 2.VII.2013 (VL, MP); 2 ♂, Tuva, 32 km SW Kyzyl, Elegest River, 22.VII.2014 (AL, VL, MP) [ IBSS, ZISP].

Diagnosis. MALE. Hypopygium distinctly carinate baso-laterally, baso-lateral portion of hypopygium rounded. Lower part of face with denser silver pubescence. FEMALE. Characters unknown.

Description. MALE. Length of body 5.5–7.5 mm. Length of fore wing 4.8–5.2 mm. Width of head 1.1–1.2 × its height. Ocelli small, ratio POD/OOD 0.9 ×. Width of gena medially 0.4–0.6 × width of eye medially (lateral view). Clypeus weakly longitudinally convex, anterior border weakly emarginate, with narrow smooth rim. Labrum flat, anterior border straight. Malar space weakly developed. Length of flagellomere 1 1.9–2.3 × its width. Relation of scape, pedicel and two first flagellomeres 22–25:11–14:21–26:25–31. Apical flagellomere pointed on the apex. Length of mesosoma dorsally 1.9–2.1 × its maximum width. Length of pronotum medially 0.3–0.4´its width; posterior pronotal border angulate. Pronotum distinctly broadened posterad, its anterior width 0.8 × posterior width. Length of metanotum medially 1.4–1.6 × length of metapostnotum. Metapostnotum with fine transverse striae, posterior border with small median smooth shiny triangle. Length of propodeum medially 0.7 × its maximum width. Wings slightly infuscated. Fore wing with darker apical part, venation as in Fig. 17. Venation of hind wing as in Fig. 18. Posterior border of S6 arcuate, emarginated. Hypopygium as in Figs 3, 4 View FIGURES 2 – 10 . Genitalia as in Fig. 2 View FIGURES 2 – 10 .

Frons, supraclypeal area, gena and propleura with scattered or sometimes dense, long, brown erect setae. Pronotum, mesoscutum and scutellum with scattered brown erect setae. Fore coxa usually with few brown erect setae. Each side of propodeum with up to ten long brown erect setae. Mandible with few erect curved setae. Other body parts lacking setae. Lower part of face, mandible basally, gena, pronotum, pleurae, propodeum, fore coxa with iridescent, mainly silver pubescence (denser on lower part of face). Metasoma with iridescent, mainly grey micropubescence. Legs with brownish micropubescence. Body regularly micropunctate. Body and legs black. Sometimes outer eyes orbit with small yellowish spot; mandible brownish apically; T1 (except extreme basal portion), T2, T3 (except apical half), S1, S2 (completely, or except apical portion) and sometimes S3 (except apical half) ferruginous-red.

FEMALE. Unknown.

Comparison. The male of this species resembles that of European Arachnospila (Ammosphex) consobrina (Dahlbom, 1843) by having similar shape of hypopygium and genitalia, but easily differs by having rounded basolateral portion of hypopygium (distinctly angulated in A. (A.) consobrina ). The differences from other males of the subgenus Ammosphex , which are distributed in the Russian Far East and East Siberia, are given in the key below.

Etymology. Named after Maxim Yu. Proshchalykin [IBSS], our colleague, a bee taxonomist.

Distribution. Russia (Khakassia, Tuva).

Ecology. Inhabits steppe areas, where occurs in sandy and forest biotopes along rivers and lakes.
