Type material. Holotype Ψ: Sanya, Hainan Province, China, 10m, 6.IV.1960 (Li Shoufu) ( IZCAS). Paratypes: 4ΨΨ, the same label data as in holotype; 1 Ψ, Tongshi, Hainan Province, China, 340m, 24.IV.1960 (Li Changqing) ( IZCAS).
Diagnosis. Similar to P. c l a u s a in vein M and vein R4+5 joined forming petiole at wing tip, mid and hind femora and tibiae mostly yellow, and scutellum whitish microtrichose beneath, but differing by thorax and abdomen with uniformly purplegreen sheen, spemathecae mushroomlike.
Description. Head. Higher than length. Frons yellowishbrown, subshining, with two tomentose areas adjacent to eye margins, in posterior part with four conspicuous low longitudinal swellings; 1.2 times as long as wide, almost as wide as eye, slightly wider posteriorly. Ocellar triangle and vertical plates black; vertical plates bare, shining. Face saddlelike, concave in profile. Ventral half of median facial plate and clypeus black, dorsal half of median facial plate and antennal groove gray microtrichose, median facial plate slightly wider than antennal groove. Parafacial and gena yellowishbrown, gena about 1/3 as high as eye. Occiput black, with brown area behind ocellar triangle and narrow tomentose areas adjacent to eye margins. Mouthparts black. Antenna yellowishbrown, 1st flagellomere rounded apically, 1.5–2.0 times as long as wide; arista bare ( Figs 27–28 View FIGURES 27 – 31 ).
Thorax. Completely brown, with bright purplegreen reflection. Scutellum triangular, shining above and whitish microtrichose beneath. 2 pairs of scutellar setae, 2 Katepisternal, 2 anepisternal and 2 postpronotal setae present; dorsocentral seta absent. All setae and setulae darkbrown.
Wing. Completely hyaline, vein R1 bare, posteroapical extension of cell cup long, 2.0–2.5 times as long as transverse section of vein CuA2; Cell r4+5 completely closed, vein M and vein R4+5 joined forming petiole at wing tip; crossvein rm situated beyond middle of cell dm ( Fig. 29 View FIGURES 27 – 31 ).
Legs. Foreleg with coxa and femur yellow to yellowbrown, tibia brown, basitarsomere pale yellow and other tarsomeres darkbrown, femur slightly swollen; mid and hind leg yellow to yellowbrown, mid tibia with black apical spine.
Abdomen. Both tergites and sternites brown, with bright purplegreen reflection. Tergite 2 with yellow setulae on sides. Oviscape short, as long as tergite 5 and 0.25–0.3 times as long as aculeus; aculeus narrow and long, 6.9 times as long as wide at base, rounded at apex and with 2 pairs of long setae and 4–6 pairs of short setulae on ventral and lateroventral side ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 27 – 31 ). 3 mushroomlike spermathecae ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 27 – 31 ), bottom flat, two of which have Tshape bifurcated common duct.
Male. Unknown.
Measurements: Wing length: Ψ, 3.8–4.2 mm. Body length: Ψ, 4.0– 5.8 mm.
Distribution. China (Hainan).
Etymology. Named after the type locality.
Remarks. Based on the characters from head and wing, this species appears to have a closer relationship with P. c l a u s a (Macquart) than with other three species in China.
