Diagnosis. Capitata with a planula stage in the life cycle.

Remarks. Planulate Capitata were retained in Capitata Kühn, 1913 , sensu stricto, by Cartwright et al. (2008). To avoid confusion, this name should be changed. Molecular studies by Nawrocki et al. (2010) suggest the presence of two clades within the group, namely the Corynida (including Corynidae Johnston, 1836 and Cladonematidae Gegenbaur, 1857 ) and Zancleida (including Hydrocorynidae Rees, 1957a , Pennariidae McCrady, 1859 , Moerisiidae Poche, 1914 , Sphaerocorynidae Prévot, 1959 , Porpitidae Goldfuss, 1818 , Zancleidae Russell, 1953 , Asyncorynidae Kramp, 1949 , Milleporidae Fleming, 1828 , Cladocorynidae Allman, 1872 , and Solanderiidae Marshall, 1892 ).
