Piletophyllum was originally a section of Sibbaldia View in CoL L., raised to generic rank by Soják (2008) including two species. The type is Piletophyllum micropetalum (D.Don) Soják View in CoL (basionym Potentilla micropetala D.Don View in CoL ), designated by Soják (1970). Piletophyllum belongs to the Anserina clade.
