Genus Mediolata Canestrini
Type species: Stigmaeus longirostris Berlese.
Idiosoma oval. Dorsum smooth or ornamented. Prodorsum covered with a large shield (sometimes reduced to a large shield and one or two pairs of platelets), bearing four pairs of setae (vi, ve, sci, sce). One pair of eyes and one pair of post-ocular bodies. Dorsal hysterosomal area with six pairs of setae (c 1, d 1, d 2, e 1, e 2, f 1). Humeral shields and setae c 2 absent. Suranal shield entire, bearing two pairs of setae (h 1,2). Coxisternal shields absent. Ventral opisthosoma with two or four pairs of aggenital setae, two pairs in male. Anogenital shields with one pair of genital setae (g 1) and three pairs of pseudanal setae (ps 1–3). Chelicerae entirely separated or partly fused. Palptibial claw small, less than half length of palp tarsus. Terminal eupathidia on palp tarsus basally fused and split into three minute prongs. Subcapitulum with one pair of subcapitular setae. Solenidia on tarsi I–IV: 1, 1, 1, 1 in female; 2, 2, 1–2, 1 in male ( Doğan and Ayyıldız 2004; Fan and Zhang 2005; Faraji and Ueckermann 2006).
