Philopota Wiedemann, 1830: 17 . Type-species: Philopota conica Wiedemann, 1830 .

Diagnosis. Eyes black, with short pilosity, holoptic above antennae ( Fig. 1 ). Antenna very small, inserted just above proboscis ( Fig. 6 , 8 ). Proboscis long, usually as long as the body and inserted at the middle of the head ( Fig. 6 , 8 ). Wing venation is quite reduced and varies among species; some veins are lacking or incomplete. Postpronotal lobes strongly developed, fused dorsally ( Fig. 1 ). Body with humpbacked appearance ( Fig. 6 , 8 ). Postscutelum underdeveloped, not visible below the scutelum ( Fig. 7 ).
