Diagnosis. Eyes black, with short pilosity, holoptic above antennae ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1, 2 ). Antenna very small, inserted just above proboscis ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5, 6. 5 , 8 View FIGURES 7, 8. 7 ). Proboscis long, usually as long as the body and inserted at the middle of the head ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5, 6. 5 , 8 View FIGURES 7, 8. 7 ). Wing venation is quite reduced and varies among species; some veins are lacking or incomplete. Postpronotal lobes strongly developed, fused dorsally ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1, 2 ). Body with humpbacked appearance ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5, 6. 5 , 8 View FIGURES 7, 8. 7 ). Postscutelum underdeveloped, not visible below the scutelum ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7, 8. 7 ).
