Medinilla afromontana Lebrun & Taton (1947: 290) View in CoL ( Fig. 21 View FIGURE 21 )
Type: — DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO. Kikomero , Nov. 1937, 1850 m, J . Lebrun 8453 (holotype BR [ BR0000008953476 ]; isotype BR [ BR0000008953148 ]) .
Notes:— Medinilla afromontana differs from M. mannii Hooker (1871: 460) in the elliptic and 5-veined leaves and the inflorescence with usually numerous flowers (up to 20). The type at BR (Lebrun 8453), indicated in the protologue, consists of two sheets of which one bears a complete label and additional informations and is thus considered as the holotype.
The species was recorded in Nyungwe National Park growing as an epiphyte on a mossy tree SE of Karamba, 1927 m, 11 April 2014, E. Fischer s.n. ( KOBL). A check in the Herbarium Meise revealed another specimen, originally misidentifed as Memecylon sp. , to represent this species: Forêt de Nyungwe , plantation de Gisakura, Préfecture: Cyangugu, 2000 m, 6 May 1971, G.Bouxin 580 ( BR 0000020420642).
