Comments:—Species distributed throughout Central and South America ( Lichtwardt 1997, Lichtwardt & Grigg 1998, White et al. 2000, López Lastra et al. 2005, Valle & Cafaro 2010, Valle et al. 2011). Our Colombian collection includes specimens with thalli measuring138–366 × 2.6–7.6 μm diam. Trichospores are slightly sinuous, to coiled or curved, 41.5–101 × 1.5–8 μm, and may be wider at the apical section. Generative cells 64–103 μm long. We observed a pair of conjugating thalli but zygospores were not found.
